The Big Manistee River
    Canoeist will find the finest canoeing and camping adventures, holding miles of undeveloped land, beautiful waters and several access sites for all to enjoy.  The Big Manistee River can also offer some of the finest hiking and biking trails, this combination is guaranteed to bring you back again and again.
    The current is generally slow to moderate, so if you have basic canoeing skills, you'll find it rewarding.  If you are looking for a day trip, or overnight adventure, the gentle nature of the Big Manistee is one to experience.
The Little Manistee River
    The Little Manistee has a working canoe trip in nature.  Its narrow, winding and generally shallow character is a wonderful adventure, however be prepared to negotiate fallen trees and other obstacles along the way.  For some canoeists it beats a slow lazy river by far. Current is moderate to fairly quick through most of the river.  The exception of being the 9 mile to 6 mile bridge section,
which is one of the fastest stretches of river in the lower peninsula.  This requires advanced canoe skills.
